About the Artist

Grant Y. Smith, OMM, CD

Grant served 37 years as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), flying primarily Search and Rescue helicopters. He was the Commanding Officer of both 103 Squadron in Gander, Newfoundland and later 442 Squadron in Comox, BC.

Retiring from the RCAF in 2011 at the rank of Colonel, Grant then took up painting as hobby. He was honoured by having work displayed on the cover of Air Force magazine twice and has sold a number of paintings on Vancouver Island where he and his wife Terry now reside. Landscapes, seascapes and the occasional helicopter are the subjects he most enjoys painting.
